Sprawling across an estate of idyllic tropical gardens,
The Slate is a glamorous escape for the artistically minded
Phuket's prime all-suite design resort takes its inspiration from the island's tin-mining heritage, with industrial style architecture and contemporary cool interiors by renowned American designer Bill Bensley. Its rich offering of on-site facilities - three swimming pools, a spa, gym, selection of restaurants, art gallery, dive school and cooking school - allows guests to fully immerse themselves in an indulgent world of luxury. Hide away in romantic seclusion within the tropical jungle, just steps away from the golden sands and turquoise lagoon of the serene Nai Yang beach.

“I was always intrigued by the tin mining business that our ancestors had run for a long time in Phuket. So as a tribute to my ancestry, I decided to use tin mining as a unique and personal source of inspiration in the creation of The Slate Resort. Today, there are only three tin dredgers left in Phuket, and only a few of the island’s inhabitants know about their rich industrial past.
Pockets of raw tin ore were found resting on layers of slate in Phuket’s Kathu district during the grand search for the black gold, as if to offer the treasure to those who sought it. Indeed, the resort offers numerous treasures within the vast grounds, just waiting to be discovered.
THE SLATE is a striking, poetic reminder of raw beauty, of vision and of the romance of a rich bygone era."
imagine a romantic day like this
You wake up to the sound of the birds, draw the curtains and the sunlight streams golden into your bedroom.
You take an early morning dip in your private plunge pool and then order breakfast to your room, to eat snuggled up beneath the duvet.
The morning is lazy, perhaps for a yoga class under the shade of the ancient banyan trees or a slow kayak along the coastline. For lunch, your butler leads you to a hidden picnic spot underneath a natural canopy of trees. After indulging, you lie for a while listening to the jungle.
You decide to play croquet on the lawn in the afternoon and return to your room for an aromatic couple's massage, followed by a long soak in a warm rose petal bath. Dinner is served on the beach, by flickering candlelit, and accompanied by the nighttime orchestra of cicadas and frogs set against the background sound of the rolling waves.
The island's industrial heritage is reflected through concrete floors and black steel structured furnishings, alongside a bright, youthful colour palette and seductive lighting. Each suite features a living area, a balcony or terrace and includes a mini bar, complimentary Wifi, water, coffee and tea making facilities, a flat-screen TV with DVD player, custom-made bath products, bathrobes, slippers and sandals.
Spacious and bright, these suites come with oversized, sleek charcoal bathtub, a day bed and a terrace or balcony surrounded by jungle.

beyond the hotel
Join the monks' sunrise ceremonies at the local Nai Yang temple for a spiritual start to your day, or choose a full day of culture with a nine temples tour. On Sundays, the night market turns Phuket's pretty, pastel coloured old town into a buzz of activity, with an almost Mediterranean ambience. Wander wistfully from stall to stall tasting samples of the local street food and browse the handmade crafts for a hidden treasure to take home. Soak up the culture on a historical art tour, or visit the island's only tin-mining museum to learn more about Phuket's intriguing industrial past. Nai Yang Beach is a calm escape from the more touristic beaches; you won't find any crowded diners or noisy bars here, but the fresh seafood and local style snack restaurants have a certain rustic charm set against the backdrop of gently blowing palms.
