"When you get to design your own hotel you design it with a lot of passion, a lot of care, a lot of love and there are layers of thinking that goes into it, the smallest details from how you experience the place to what the staff should wear. I think Soori Bali is one of the most honest things I've done. People come for refuge, rebalancing and for contemplation and so to achieve that the architecture has to be balanced and quiet and it has to exude a feeling of peace and calmness. The best way to make it authentic and of the place is to hire the locals so our staff are from not only from Tabanan, but also the local village. They welcome guests to experience their home and their way of life.
When I was creating Soori Bali, it wasn't about building a monument, it was about the place. The first time I stood here, I understood there was energy in this land, this place is spiritual, so when people who seek release from the daily pressures of working in big cities come here, they get respite. To me, luxury travel is about authentic experience, service should be instinctive and not preprogrammed, you should have flexibility, you should be on your own time. At Soori Bali there's no concept of a late check out, if it's empty you can check out whenever you like. We want to steer away from structure. Soori is about a lifestyle and a mindset and design. The Soori brand is a collaboration between my wife and I, so it's as if we are inviting guests to our house. It's real, from our hearts."
