"When our hotel group decided to have a hotel in Sri Lanka’s bustling hill capital Kandy, we identified the terraced slopes on a riverbank hillside as the location. It allowed us to build a hotel just a few minutes’ drive from the city centre, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Cinnamon Citadel is perched high up in the hill country, beside a quiet bend in the Mahaweli River. You wake up to stunning views of the misty mountains in the distance and the meandering river nearby. Kandy, culturally rich and the last domain of the Sinhala kings offers a rich variety of sightseeing options. What our guests like most about the hotel is its location and the tranquillity - the perfect place for quiet relaxation after a busy day imbibing history and culture in Kandy.
When you are not taking in the panoramic views offered from every room, you can go for boat rides and nature walks that get you up close and personal with the wild inhabitants of the surrounding forests. Or simply enjoy the warmth of our ever-smiling staff, whose prompt service and attention to every little detail completes the experience of the perfect getaway."

beyond the hotel
The lively and historic hillside city of Kandy is just 15 minutes from the hotel by boat. Stroll around the Kandy Lake built by the last king, Sri Wickrama Raja Singha in 1798 and look down from the Kandy view point on the Peradeniya mountain area through Hantana and the scenic view of Peradeniya University. The markets are colourful and bustling and the tea museum is an interesting insight into one of Sri Lanka's main exports. Else take a short drive to 'Upali's' workshop, a local brass crafter known for his skill and humility, where you can watch him work and learn more about the traditions of craftsmanship. From here you can go on to visit the Degaldoruwa Rajamaha Viharaya (Temple) which is famous for the Kandyan era paintings or the Galmaduwa Temple which is a unique place of worship for Buddhists. If you're looking to escape further into the depths of the wilderness, the trek beneath the Knuckles Mountain range is particularly scenic with a plethora of exotic flora and fauna to be seen along the route or else there are plenty of tracks through the forbidden forest. Take a picnic along with you and find a shady spot to relax in the calm of nature.
