Nestled within an age-old tea plantation, these delicately restored,
Colonial style bungalows are an exquisite throwback to the past
Ceylon Tea Trail, in the central region of Sri Lanka is largely untouched, reminiscent of an elegant Colonial time. It is the home of the world-renowned Ceylon Tea. Celebrating Sri Lanka’s finest export, the resort was created by renowned Dilmah Tea owner Merrill J. Fernando, in response to global requests to tour his sprawling tea plantation. The tea planter reserve was lovingly restored and each of the five exquisite bungalows have their own unique character. Expect personal butler service, organic produce grown onsite and prepared to your liking and, of course, tours of the plantation. Hike or bike through a rural hinterland of mountains, lakes and waterfalls and return to a welcome gin and tonic, prepared exactly how you like it.

“It is truly delightful we were able to start our hospitality business with Ceylon Tea Trails which offer stately colonial bungalows set within a fully functional tea plantation, giving travellers a truly authentic slice of local life. Tea and hospitality came together in a very natural way for us. Alongside my father Merrill J. Fernando and my brother, Dilshan, we began running unofficial tea tours, with visitors staying in our tea planters’ bungalows and estate managers’ homes, touring the factories and plantations with our team. Word spread and our accidental hotel business began! In 2004, we started restoration work on the bungalows to provide a luxury, contemporary feel. Each bungalow is between four and 15 km apart and there are marked trails everywhere. Guests are encouraged to walk, trek and even use the mountain bikes through the plantations. There are treks and guides too. Dilmah tea has always enjoyed a premium positioning in the market and our luxury resorts are nothing but a logical progression. Our philosophy is not to follow the cookie-cutter model of larger chain hotels. Our resorts must reflect a sense of place, so the designs are different and locally relevant. What is common in all our resorts is the unparalleled service and the luxury experience.”
imagine a romantic day like this
Receive a gentle wake-up call, care of your personal butler, who brings you ‘Bed Tea’ and begins to draw you a bath. Languish with your cup of the finest Ceylon, before enjoying a lazy breakfast with your loved one on your private verandah. A day of tea inspiring activities awaits. Meander through the tea plantation in the morning, learning the intricate details of how your daily brew is created. Be surprised by a mid-morning feast of scones with rhubarb jam. It’s back to the bungalow later for a light lunch before you explore the majestic scenery on mountain bike. Clear mountain lakes and emerald tea plantations surround you. Return and unwind with an in-room therapeutic red-tea oil massage. Your butler then arrives to stoke the log fire, serves a spice infused curry for two and pours only the finest single malt. When you float to your bed, your tea-inspired day ends with a sprig of camellia sinensis (tea spring), left on your pillow.
